Yachting

Viraver is a leading manufacturer of glazed systems for the yachting industry. The use of glass in yachts is increasingly crucial. Viraver supports shipyards and designers in the design phase to integrate glass as a structural and design element. Thanks to its know-how, continuous research and development, and state-of-the-art facilities, Viraver has become a point of reference in the yachting sector to produce large, high-performance glass:
  • Extreme curvatures: Viraver creates large, curved surfaces up to 00 m x 3.20 m, maintaining excellent optical quality, with no optical distortion even in the most extreme curvatures.
  • Reduction of thickness: thanks to the chemical hardening process of the glass, Viraver produces large glass panes up to 8 m x 3.20 m, proposing new solutions to reduce thickness with tests required by international registers.
  • Optical energy performance: Viraver designs and manufactures high-performance double-glazing solutions to improve energy efficiency and comfort on board. Using selective films and special interlayers integrated into laminated glass, we reduce up to 50% of infrared radiation, contributing to cooler environments and greater comfort on board.

Thanks to the total integration of the technical, analysis, production and testing chain, we are committed to the design and production of glazed systems of excellent quality, ensuring total control of processes and products.

Turnkey Project Management

Viraver offers its customers a complete service, starting from the pre-design phase, when the details are far from being defined, up to installation or, if required, maintenance. Integrated Project Management is the set of activities carried out by Project Managers, aimed at analysing, designing, planning, and implementing the objectives of a project.

Viraver, faithful to its DNA, has developed its vision of Integrated Project Management on a model of activities that are shaped on the needs of the customer, a winning factor in the creation of innovative products.

Refitting

The significant changes being made today in contemporary yacht refits increasingly involve the yacht’s glass surfaces, which are becoming more important in this activity as well.
For a refit, just like a new project, it’s essential to rely on the turnkey project management process. Viraver’s experience and know-how are dedicated to this complex project, working closely with the designer and the shipyard to provide a comprehensive service that can be practically described as “turnkey.” Replacing windows on yachts, where the technology used in the past has become obsolete, requires a new, comprehensive project. In this context, collaboration with classification authorities is essential for presenting and approving the new window plan.

Development

The “Giga windows” are the protagonists of the functional design of this Giga Yacht; a project that aims to enhance brightness in all its forms. 800 square meters of glass were produced, 27% of which with ViraFlame technology. Fire resistance, a fundamental element in the design of modern super and giga yachts, was guaranteed by Viraver with its ViraFlame fire-resistant glass system. Despite the complex design challenges related to the quality of the glass, the transparency, and the large size of the glazed surfaces, Viraver has been able to provide a cutting-edge solution.

02.

Design

In this project, it is not only the glass that is the protagonist, but the entire innovative approach with which the ViraFlame fire-resistant glass system was developed. Unlike traditional systems, this system, which complies with the Fire Test Procedure Code issued by the IMO, does not use intumescent gel, thus guaranteeing the transparency of the windows over time and even in the event of a fire without compromising safety. This opens up a new era of fire protection, were safety and design blend in perfect harmony.

03.

Production

Viraver raises the level of fire safety with the ViraFlame glazing system, an innovative fire-resistant system designed to overcome the limitations of traditional solutions. Unlike traditional systems, ViraFlame does not use intumescent gel. Instead, it exploits design innovations in the frame, the type of fastening, and the sequence of materials installed. The classification obtained, in accordance with the FTP tests, is A0 (extendable A30 with dedicated splinkers) and with maximum element dimensions of 3.00 m x 2.00 m. The ViraFlame system also complies with the requirements of the Passenger Yacht Code.

01.

Development

Viraver has developed innovative solutions to integrate the glass of the bridge, respecting the minimalist and modern design project in which the side and front view is continuous and perfectly aligned on the same level.

02.

Design

Viraver designed a single, six-meter piece with a double curvature, which would cover the entire wheelhouse glass, combining central and side glass for the first time without the presence of uprights. Given the large size of the glazed surface, we integrated a technology into the laminated glass to reduce the perceived heat inside the yacht by up to 50% and improve comfort on board. This is the challenge that Viraver has met with an innovative product.

03.

Production

Viraver has created a large work with complex shapes thanks to the know-how acquired over the years in this sector and to innovative processes and technologies such as chemical tempering and gravity bending. Viraver has produced a unique piece in terms of size and shape. A laminated safety glass with a development of 6.00, it has a complex geometry that develops in three curvatures: cylindrical in the central part, spherical in the corners and helical in the final part, with an excellent optical quality free of imprints and optical

Development

A real challenge, which involved Viraver in the realization of a project that interprets transparency and elegance, inserting glass as a structural element.

02.

Design

The glass of this MegaYacht designed by Viraver was awarded by Boat International in the “Game Changer” category of its Awards. This prestigious award celebrates innovation in the nautical sector, rewarding cutting-edge production processes and revolutionary designs. The “Clean View” and the variety of curvatures and flat surfaces of these frameless structural glasses, also for the swimming pool, convinced the jury. The absence of “frames” responds to the shipowner’s request for an unobstructed view.

03.

Production

Viraver‘s world-leading technology allows to produce large chemically-tempered glass (up to 8×3.21m) and gravity curvature on large formats (up to 6.50×3.10m). The excellent optical quality of Viraver products is confirmed by the results obtained for this innovative project.

Thanks to the chemical tempering process of the glass, for which Viraver is a world leader in the large dimensions that can be reached for each single glass sheet (8.00 m × 3.20 m) and the gravity curvature on large dimensions (6.50 m X 3.10 m), it was possible to follow up on the production of these glasses. The excellent optical quality of the glass produced is confirmed by the results obtained for this innovative project.

01.

Development

In this project, glass has both a structural and design function. For Viraver, the challenge was to develop these large windows by considering various aspects, including weight, optical quality, and the precision of the elements to ensure that the shapes of the windows perfectly followed those of the hull.

02.

Design and Production

The surfaces of this yacht with flowing and sporty lines are dominated by large windows. In the design of the windows, particular attention was paid to weight containment, reducing the thicknesses where possible, thus contributing to the extraordinary performance of the Mangusta 165 REV.
Many details deserve attention, such as the windows of the master suite, characterized by a complex spherical curvature and large dimensions.
The great brightness of the hall is given by an important glass surface, which removes the division between the first and second decks. The minimalist design of this structure is made possible by the extreme precision with which the glass was produced and installed on board.
In the wheelhouse, the use of advanced technologies has made it possible to create glass with complex and precise curvatures, allowing the front and side windows to follow the lines of the yacht while maintaining excellent optical quality.
For the corner windows of the wheelhouse, which extend over 4 meters, the focus was on shape, quality, and precision, to ensure that this extraordinary element perfectly followed the lines of the yacht.
Viraver also demonstrated its expertise in the sundeck, creating a helical glass that is difficult to produce.
Viraver has created a fascinating “blend” for this project, characterized by impressive dimensions, complex curvatures, and cutting-edge technologies. From the spherical curved hull windows of about 3.00 m x 1.00 m to the large side windows that serve the main and second decks, the total surface area of the glass that covers the yacht is over 200 square meters with a total weight that, thanks to the technologies adopted by Viraver, is less than 8.5 tons.
